Bob Tribble (Wynn Reichert) has raped a girl who later committed
suicide ... but he has gotten off scot-free on a technicality. That's not
to say all is good for him as his picture is all over the news and he's
quite probably the most-hated man in the state right now ... but then he
gets into a bar where nobody knows him or if they do they don't care. And
he meets lovely Scarlet (Wendy Keeling) who seems to be rather fond of his
company. Well, it's more than just fondness all too soon, she seems to
really want him - but her firmness gets too much for him soon, to a point
where he's no longer sure whether he's the master of the situation or the
Shades of Scarlet is quite a clever little
thriller as despite its subject matter is avoids spectacle and focuses on
suspense - which is blended though with quite a shot of irony - and all of
this is just beautifully carried by the two main actors (who just happen
to be the director and writer, respectively) to come across as a really
cool piece of cinema.
