Whan Ms Lui's (Polly Shang Kwan) dad is killed by treacherous premier
Hu Wei Yung, she wants to take revenge into her own hands at first, but
soon comes to her senses and joins a group of rebels led by her father's
best friend master Chang, General Lu and his son Tam. Soon enough, the
rebels manage to steal a document proving that the premier wants to
overthrow the emperor from the premier's men, but that only leads to
master Chang being incarcerated and tortured, while Ms Lui, Tam, the
general and the rest of the rebels find themselves fighting increasing
numbers of adversaries. Eventually, the rebels manage to break free
Chang and even figure out an ambush the premier and his men are laying for
the emperor - but the problem is now, how to tell the emperor, because Ms
Lui and Tam do not only have to face the emperor's guards but also the
premier's top bodyguards Earth and Sky, who are not only top fighters who
haave already killed the general, but who are also in possession of the
golden pills that heal all their wounds in an instant ... but with a set
of fancy weapons, Ms Lui and Tam can get rid of them. Later, when they
have finally made their way to the emperor, they have to realize they have
lost the message revealing the premier as a traitor along the way - but
they can convince the emperor that the premier has really laid an ambush. In
the end, the premier is tried by the emperor, and while he tries to put
the blame on Chang, the message accusing him shows up again and thus he's
convicted to death ...
Not much new here on a story level, but
the execution of this film is quite excitingmaking up in well-staged fight
scenes and exotic weaponry what it lacks in originality. Add to this
colourful sets and costumes, a well-paced directorial effort and a rather
powerful central performance by Polly Shang Kwan, and you are left with a
very nice piece of Eastern cinema, 1970's style.
