A post-doomsday world that is populated merely by women: Evil Reverend
Mother (Sheila Howard) holds a harem of slaves for some reason or another
who are supposed to breed her babies - but of all hjer breeders, Keela
(Peggy Sanders), the one mother-to-be carrying a male offspring, is broken
free by sandtrapper/loner Phoenix (Kathleen Kinmont), and for the longest
time, Reverend Mother's right hand Kobalt (Persis Khambatta) fails to
track them down. It's only when Keela's little one Skyler (Skyler Corbett)
is about five years of age that Kobalt and her women pick up the track -
but by then Phoenix and Keela have found the last man on earth - properly
named Guy (James Emery) -, who's also on the run from Reverend Mother, but
feels very much attracted to Keela, and for the longest time, the quartet
manages to keep out of trouble ... until their escape is stopped short by
a tribe of mutants, the Rezuli, who are in league with Mother Superior,
and thus Kobalt gets her hands on Guy and Skyler, while Phoenix and Keela
are to be sacrificed by the Rezuli. But wait, the girls are saved by Neon
(Laurie de Nuccio), a gladiator whose life Phoenix once spared, and the
three of them manage to enter Mother Superior's lair and blow it sky high
while of course savind Skyler and guy. Quite obviously, this
film was inspired by Road Warrior and similar post-doomsday films,
and the main thing going for Phoenix the Warrior is its cast made
up almost entirely of lovely young women in revealing outfits (though
there is very little actual nudity in this one). Apart from that, the film
is pretty standard fare, and made on the cheap side too (though it's not
annoyingly cheap at that), which might hold some interest for trashfilm
fans like myself, but everyone expecting first rate entertainment or
a so-bad-it's-good film might as well look somewhere else.
