Larry Dale (Edmund MacDonald), designated district attorney, has just sentenced Dixie Logan (Robert Kent) to a life in prison, for a crime Logan claims he didn't commit - and when he's dragged off to the slammer, he swears revenge.

A short time later, Larry employs Marion (Luana Walters), a woman he has impressed by his handling of the Logan case, as his new secretary, and eventually the two fall in love and marry - but in their wedding night Marion shows her real face: she has never loved him but has married him to force him to clean up the city, and she has good knowledge about his crooked deals with local crime kingpin Gus Miller (Nestor Paiva) and his involvement with all sorts of crime - which of course makes him the perfect (inside-) man to clean everything up. She also knows that he only married her because as his wife she isn't allowed to testify against her husband - but she has already gathered enough evidence that her testimonial won't even be necessary.

When Larry fails to really clean up the city though, Marion decides to just send her evidence to the authorities anyways - which is when Dixie Logan, who has long broken out of jail, arrives on the scene, and he turnss out to not only be Marion's husband but also the justice of peace who married Marion and Larry, so their marriage was never legal in the first place. But when Dixie learns Marion has sent all her evidence to the authorities, he finds himself crossed, bacause he wanted to use the evidence to force Larry to make him crime kingpin - and suddenly Larry and Dixie turn against Marion, take her on a ride ... and their car crashes, which kills both Larry and Dixie but leaves Marion alive. The acting district attorney (Charles Trowbridge) finds Marion's evidence in his mail, but (for reasons unknown to me) decides to destroy it ...

Top-billed Russell Wade has a mere supporting role as nosey reporter and Marion's secondary love interest (the honest man opposed to both Larry and Dixie) in this one.

The story of this film is interesting if a bit far-fetched, however it's a bit let down by a disappointing ending (the carcrash just lacks dramatic impact) and an uninspired direction. Still not too bad.
