An evil birdcatcher makes a deal with a demon that grants him some
supernatural powers, but in exchange he has to sacrifice a kid every now
and again. The birdcatcher soon uses his newly acquired powers to kill men, rape
women, and use his hypnotic powers to lure girls to his cave for a big
orgy. Fortunately, a heroic young man who frequently flies around on a
giant bird has already picked up the birdcatcher's trail, and together
with his mentor and a guru he finally locates and enters the birdcatcher's
cave, where they face a giant spider (that makes noises rounding
remarkably like those emitted by Doctor
Who's time machine, the TARDIS), a giant hand that tries to
squash them like flies, a bunch of monsters and of course the birdcatcher
himself who has the ability to turn himself invisible ... but of course,
good triumphs over evil at the end. A cheaply done and
typically Indonesian blend of horror, fantasy and martial arts motives full of
crude special effects and gore scenes, at best mediocre fight sequences, and characters that never rise above cardboard
quality ... but the whole thing is filmed
in beautiful exotic settings and fuelled by an overboarding imagination
that it is hard to totally resist the naive and somewhat trashy charm of
the film - which doesn't make it a masterpiece of course, just sort of a
guilty pleasure.
