Out of nowhere, best friends Alex (Alex Magaña)
and Matt (Matt Lowe) are slapped in the face by a voodoo-savvy bum - and
suddenly each finds himself in the body of the other, Alex suddenly is
Matt, overweight childman who still lives with his stripper mum (Aimée
Binford) and her hot girlfriend (Erin Hagen) but has a hot girlfriend,
Holly (Alysse Fozmark), and Matt is Alex, the good-looking, buff but
extremely shy guy who simply can't talk to women. And the two of them are
not happy about this since Matt as Alex knows he will miss his mommy much
and is afraid that Alex as Matt will have sex with his girlfriend, while
Alex as Matt is afraid that Matt as Alex will not keep his body in perfect
shape. But there are bigger problems, too, Alex has a triathlon coming up,
and Matt a stand up comedy show - and the respective other's not very good
at it. Plus Holly is a bit too horny of late even if Alex isn't interested
in her at all. And when he (as Matt) goes on a romantic camping trip with
her, it's really hard to fend her off - and even if he succeeds, Matt (as
Alex) gets it completely the wrong way, and the two fall out for the very
wrong reasons - and it's really up to voodoo bum to set things right
again. But he's nowhere to be found ...
Ok, a body switch
comedy is not exactly a new thing, but it's done here in a very
entertaining way, mainly because the main characters are extremely
relatable, two likeable losers who are just trying to stay afloat. And the
humour, while at times on the blunt and gross-out side, never goes
completely over-the-top to make things completely unbelievable (provided
you can suspend your disbelief enough to accept the body switch of
course). And even though the film's a bit long and could have done without
some sequences, a light-footed directorial effort and a swift pace see to
it that you're presented with an enjoyable little comedy.
