A creature that will eventually be revealed to be Bigfoot (Michael
J.London) kills a skier near a ski resort, and Carrie Rill (Sylvia Sidney)
tries to hush everything up because she owns the biggest hotel in town and
is busy organizing the annual carneval. But when a few more people die,
her son Tony (Robert Logan), Gar (Bo Svenson), an ex-skiing champion who
has just found himself again, his wife Ellen (Yvette Mimieux), and the
local sheriff (Clint Walker) who's pretty much cannon fodder, set out in a
camping van to hunt the creature - but the creature has already started
hunting them and has soon managed to destroy the van, kill the sheriff,
and make the others lose their weapons (though it escapes me why). In the
end though, our heroes manage to kill the monster, and a bit of skiing is
applied in its demise, though it escapes me why. Oh boy, what a
waste of time, an animal horror film that's made up from the exact same
elements as Jaws, by then a very recent blockbuster, just with snow
substituting for water. And when the characters are not out hunting the
creature or being hunted, they lose themselves in atrocious
soap-opera-like subplots that fail to create anything remotely resembling
tension. What's worst though about this film is that it never even tries
to rise above its made-for-television roots, the directorial effort is at
best functional and lacks any and all imagination, the actors and
actresses are definitely sub-par and they don't seem to try to give a
decent performance, and the effects are bad even considering the tight
budget they were probably created on. In all, little more than a disaster
that should be forgotten really quickly!
