It's really not the dinner party Harry (Timothy J. Cox) wants to be at
this night: His date has turned him down, his hostess Amanda (Kirsty
Meares) is his ex-wife he claims to be friends with but still has feeling
for, his host Richard (Jeff Moffitt) is his best friend and now husband of
Amanda who he can't help being jealous of, and their other guests are
loud-mouthed David (Ben Prayz), whom he detests for being shallow, and his
new girlfriend Sophie (Alex Vincent) who just seems a little too sexy for
him - and all of them seem to have lives a little too perfect for his
taste, him being the old pessimist of course. But then he comes across
Amanda alone and crying in the kitchen - and before long the whole facade
of the happy couples comes down like a house of cards ... A
poignant script with well-written dialogue, carried by a great ensemble
cast and a subtle directorial effort that doesn't draw too much attention
to itself to get into the way of the story make this short dramedy, which
might sound bland in writing, a very enjoayble piece of film, even if (on
the outside) eventless relationship movies are totally not your type of
thing.
