Teenaged sisters Blaire (Gianna Ciminera) and Grace (Alexa Ciminera)
are nothing short of creepy, and that's why their aunt (Tiffany
Browne-Tavarez) wants to have as little as possible with them after their
mother's death, and why their grandpa (Robert Arensen) keeps them under
heavy sedation. And he really blows his top when their babysitter (Denise
Haines) lets them fall asleep the natural way and pretty much kicks her
out of the house. Later that night, a trio of criminals (Jerry
Riddardelli, Erskin Alysious Alexander, Michael Grandinetti) break into
the house and tie up grandpa to ransack the place. Grandpa dies on them
though, and that leaves the girls, not drugged to begin with, completely
unchecked - and they drag each of the criminals into a hell of their own
where they are tortured with their own guilt, before getting them together
again for the grand finale ...
Now it's not that this movie tells a story that hasn't been
told before, quite the contrary ... but Somnium understands how to
make the most out of it, using the main plot device - everyone's haunted
by one's own guilt - to actually give depth to the movie's characters, to
make them tangible. This is of course also helped by very solid
performances, and the direction really rolls with the punches here to
always deliver the right look and feel, all making this a piece of really
cool genre entertainment.
