Lacy (Shy Pilgreen) has just been released from rehab, and out of other
options she moves in with her brother Mike (Robert Peters), her
sister-in-law Ila (Jennifer Pierce Mathus), their kids (Carter Pilgreen,
Ciollin Lucas, later also Alayna Pilgreen), and cousins Tori (Hannah
Alline) and Jeff (Rodney Dean), and she starts to work at Mike and Ila's
flea market - which is really the worst place for a recovering addict to
work as under the table, Mike and Ila also sell some of the finest meth of
the state. So it's no wonder that Lacy has the occasional relapse, and
during one such phase loses one of her sextapes, eventually accidently
gives meth-laced gummibears to the children, and ultimately the kids are
caught watching her sextape by child protection ...
It's two years later and Lacy has moved into a campervan - when
the pandemic hits, and Lacy finds herself stuck with musician Lick (Billy
Watson), a one-night stand she doesn't even particularly like who's, as
she later finds out, married. Meanwhile, Mike still tries to run his meth
business - locked inside his room as Ila, who has found God, tries to keep
him out of trouble, and even tries to branch out into dealing moonshine,
but many of his best efforts are thwarted by his not-too-bright delivery
guy Rosie (Brad Carter) ...
When it comes to films about recovering addicts, this one's
pretty much as funny as it gets, as it doesn't focus too much on the drama
but the absurdities of the situations its protagonist gets into,
situations that nevertheless feel real, also thanks to the fact that they
never drift off into the purely moronic, and the comedy never feels
forced. This is thanks to very nice writing of course but also a suitably
subtle directorial effort, and very natural performances by pretty much
all involved, making this one pretty awesome entertainment, really.
