After they receive a distress call from a giant spaceship (that will
eventually turn out to be an ark from a doomed civilisation), the crew of
Moonbase Alpha on earth's runaway moon sends a rescue party, made up of
the usual lot: Commander Koenig himself (Martin Landau), his chief MD
Helena Russell (Barbara Bain), action guys Paul (Prentis Hancock) &
Alan (Nick Tate), chief scientist Victor (Barry Morse), and the one who
dies, Bill (Paul Antrim).
Aboard the spaceship the sextet is soon divided into 3 groups: Koenig
& Victor meet lovely Kara (Joan Collins) from the lost civilisation of
the Darians, who invites all the Alphans to travel with them to the
promised land, while Paul & Alan soon find themselves in a jungle
(yes, aboard the ship), and Helena & Bill are soon abducted by some
savages, who before long sacrifice Bill (told you he is going to die).
Paul and Alan eventually save Helena, gut they soon enough start to
realize soemthing is wrong ...
And yes it is, Koenig & Victor soon enough find out the Darians
actually feed on the savages (whom they regard as mutants after an
explosion destroyed vast parts of the ship), but since the supply of
savages is running low, they have decided to feed on the Alphans instead
(that's the reason for the invite).
However, Alan soon starts a revolt and leads the savages against the
Darians ... & eventually peace is made between the two fractions, only
the Alphans have missed a chance to reach a friendly planet.
Another enjoyably spaced out episode, full of colourful sets &
costume designs (I especially liked Joan Collins silvery eyebrows), a
trashy story and genuine sci-fi-silliness. You might hate it ... but you
might still somehow enjoy it.
