Somewhere in outer space: A crew of five (C.Juston Campbell, Faye Bolt,
John W.Smith, Taylor Kingsley, Marcia Linn) have just made it off a
spacestation just before it exploded on a space freighter, when they ave
to otice they have an alien on board, and what's worse, this alien is
kiling them off one by one, until only two of the humans (Campbell and
Bolt) are left alive. They are trying to find out more about the alien and
learn that it was actually only a baby alien in the beginning travelling
with its computer nanny, but now it's quickl learning all sorts of things
... In the finale, our two survivors find themselves cornered by the
alien - but the alien doesn't want to kill them any longer, having since
find out the value of human life and such ... and ultimately, they all
become friends (really). This movie starts out like an Alien
rip-off, and even though it is obviously made on the cheap, it's not bad,
there is some decent narrative build-up here and some of the suspense
scenes are pretty cool. Unfortunately, the film eventually abandons its
initial premise and goes all ET - and while it's an interesting
turn of events to see humans and aliens make peace every once in a while,
the film at the end is unfortunately almost as cheesy (in a bad way) as
Steven Spielberg's alleged classic. And that pretty much ruins Star
Crystal for me,much more than the below-average performances of all
involved, the cheap sets and silly looking alien. Why on earth could
anyone think ET would be a good template for a sci fi-horror flick?
