Evil underwater king Titan orders his surface agent X20 to discredit
the crew of Stingray, the supersub of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol -
so when Stingray is supposed to guard a massive oil shipment, X20 sets up
a decoy to lure her away and then blows up the oil shimpment ... and
before you know it, Phones, navigator of Stingray, is accused of having
hallucinations. Enter X20 in the guise of an Austrian psychiatrist who
conjures up a few illusions to really convince Phones himself too that he
loses his marvels, and everything goes almost too well to be true - until
Stingray takes another dive in the area where Phones was supposed to have
received the signal from another boat, and where now Titan's guards and
X20 are looking for the decoy, but of course, Captain Troy Tempest in the
supersub manages to chase X20 and the guards away, secure the decoy and
save Phones' reputation.
And X20 ? He suddenly finds himself caught up in the malfunctioning
illusions he has made up especially for Phones.
Average episode of Stingray: On one hand, some of the
effects are actually pretty cool, but on the other the story is just to
childish to really work - but in all fairness, the series was conceived
for children, and maybe, just maybe, after all these 30+ years, I'm not a
child anymore ...
