5 years ago: Sam Shore, now the wheelchair-bound Commander of the World
Aquanaut Security Patrol, was still piloting subs himself as a
patrolman - when he stumbled upon a small sub that blew up all sorts of
marine mining operations. And when Shore and the small sub came face to
face, the small sub blew up his sub too - but for some reason he was rowed
back to safety in a raft by the sub's pilot ...
Now: Again a small sub is blowing up mining operations, but this time
it has to face Stingray, the World Aquanaut Security Patrol's super
sub, and before you know it, Stingray has cornered its opponent, causing
its pilot to abandon ship. When doing so however, the pilot gets caught in
a giant clam - and wouldn't you know it, it's the very same man (or rather
submariner) who saved Commander Shore's life all these years ago. And now
it's up to Troy Tempest, Captain of Stingray, to save his life ... and
once he hasthe submariner offers the surface dwellers nothing less than
peace ...
Generally speaking, Stingray is not a series
strong on scripts, but the script of this episode is particularly weak,
totally lacking character motivations, and relentlessly and annoyingly
hammering home its cheesy message. This combined with the lack of any real
special special effects make this one of the weakest episodes of
the series (and that's saying something).
