When Jason (Jamie Gillis) spots Joanna (Terri Hall) in a restaurant, he
knows immediately that she's the one. He is so sure of himself that he,
when he later takes her home, just proceeds to rape her without warning -
and it doesn't take her long to like it. He soon drags her into a world of
debauchery where he whips and humiliates her and has her shagged by
numerous men all at once, he just makes her an object of desire ... and
she lets him because she truly loves him - despite the fact that he has
made it clear that he will never love her back, and everything she does
she will only do to please him, even if that means sleeping with numerous
other men. Why does Jason do it? Because he's terminally ill, but only
he and his butler (Zebedy Colt) - who's very much in love with Jason and
at one instance even gives him a(n onscreen) blow job - know it. But Jason
doesn't want to just wilt away, he wants to go out with a bang, with a
grand gesture - and he figures that grand gesture would be a woman who
truly loves him killing him, an act that would make him immortal, and thus
he pushes Joanna further and further and further. Until she shoots him
dead of course. However, Joanna has the last laugh, and she takes over his
mansion, his possessions, his fortune, his life without flinching an
eyebrow once she has shot him. She only orders the body to candidly remove
"that" - meaning Jason's dead body. The Story of
Joanna is one of the very few pieces of truly remarkable hardcore porn
- not only because it manages to tell a compelling story of dominance and
submission and S/M in a very direct and honest yet unsleazy, unspeculative
and unsensationalist way, but also because it's a totally stylish film.
Yet the style never outdoes the content, instead locations and costumes
create just the right atmosphere of decadence to carry the story while the
tastefully chosen music never fails to create a mood of unease, even in
the most intimate moments. Add to this a directorial effort that sees the
movie's sex scenes as a means of driving the story along rather than to
show as much genitalia as possible, and you've got yourself a very special
piece of porn. Recommended, actually!
