Shortly before the election for village chief, acting chief Sugandhi's (Jarwo Kwat) campaign is hit with a scandal, as it is reported he has an affair with another woman. This is of course 100% true, yet to dismiss all the reports as lies anyways, Sugandhi swears the shroud oath, according to which he will be haunted by Pocong (ghosts tied inside their shrouds) should he tell a lie. And Sugandhi figures with the help of spiritualist Bolon he will be able to avoid all the Pocong coming after him anyways - but all the spiritualist does is to charge more and more from Sugandhi's campaign money while the Pocong are constantly attacking him and his estranged wife Nani (Julia Pérez) anyhow. However, being under constant Pocong attack, Sugandhi and Nani find back to each other and fall in love again - which truly moves the two attacking Pocong, who fall in love as well and decide to leave Sugandhi and Nani in peace.

Six days before the election, Sugandhi is to meet his rivals in a public discussion, and has to realize his chief rival is actually master Bolon, who has facilitated his affair in the first place, and has then charged him ridiculous amounts of money to empty his rival's campaign coffers and fill up his own. Feeling beaten even before the election, Sugandhi resigns - but now the Pocong who have haunted him show pity, and they decide to teach master Bolon a lesson, scaring him shitless and making him apologize to Sugandhi and resign from the election himself ...

One of the better horrorfilms to come out of Indonesia of late, as Sumpah 'ini' Pocong doesn't take itself seriously for one minute, and at times it's actually pretty funny, especially when it plays with genre conventions or has actors step out of their roles to complain about certain scenes. Interestingly, comic relief Udjie Tongky as idiotic cop is about the unfunniest element of the film, while Julia Pérez as Sugandhi's klutzy wife really carries the film and secures some of the biggest laughs.

In all, not a masterpiece of horror comedy perhaps, but ok light entertainment nevertheless.
