To come over her break-up with Jeremy (Derek Ramsay), Claire (Maricel Soriano), a volunteer worker for the Save the Orphan-program, agrees to fetch little orphan Angeli (Mika Dela Cruz) from somewhere in the provinces and take her to Manila to live with her aunt - but even on the roadtrip, that runs into many complications, Claire notices there's something wrong with Angeli, as the girl frequently disappears and turns up again somewhere else not knowing how she got there, talks about people who want to take her away, and Claire repeatedly sees persons in Angeli's company that aren't there ...

Finally, Claire and Angeli arrive at Angeli's aunt's appartment, only to learn from her neighbour (Camille Prats) that the aunt isn't there, but everybody in the place tries to convince Claire to leave Angeli there in the meantime and just leave - something Claire just cannot do because of her responsibility for the girl. While waiting for Angeli's aunt, Claire dozes off and has weird dreams, and when she wakes up again, the girl is gone, and when Claire finally finds her again, the two of them are pursued by demons and are separated. Claire has soon run out of ideas as to how to find the girl, but a crazy neighbour, Rita (Tetchie Agbayani), sheds some light on the proceedings: Angeli is actually a creature half angel half human, and now, on her ninth birthday, the angels want to drag her over to their side - only the angels are not the divine beings we imagine them to be but cold-hearted, soulless creatures that only have the survival of their own race on their minds.

Claire and Rita enter the angels' realm, where Angeli is about to be introduced into the angelic society, but Claire, knowing that Angeli can only become an angel on her own free will and cannot be forced to become one, reminds Angeli of her life as a human, the love of her deceased father and so on, and has almost convinced the girl when the angels reveal to her that they hold her husband Jeremy, whom Claire still loves despite their break-up, hostage - which causes Angeli to completely denounce the angels' world, as she doesn't want harm to come to the people close to her, and with this little triumph, Rita launches an all-out attack against the angels, pretty much destroying them - or so it seems ...

Months later: Claire and Jeremy have reconciled and have adopted Angeli - but on her first day of school she has to realize that her teacher is one of the angels ...

My synopsis of T2 sounds silly as can be, I'm aware of that, but the film is anything but, a very creepy and suspenseful horror film that leaves the viewer completely in the dark about what's going on for about two thirds of the movie without ever losing its grip on the audience, and when the truth behind the story is finally revealed, this does come across as neither heavy-handed nor overly naive, but takes its inspiration more from Alice in Wonderland than any number of contemporary horror and fantasy spectacles. Add to this an imaginative directorial effort and solid performances from all involved and you've got one of the most unusual and most interesting genre films of late.

Highly recommended.
