Giuliano Gemma is Tampeko, a Southerner in a confederate prison shortly after the Civil War. He is of
the 5th Cavalry, the only regiment still not admitting defeat &
fighting the Northerners on their terms, but when he learns that his
regiment is misused to attack Fort Yuma, so they can provide solid
coverup for some bandits (lead by Dan Vadis), who want to steal the
Fort's treasure, he agrees to be the scout for an expedition to said
fort to prevent unnecessary bloodshed. However, the expedition soon
breaks up when Tampeko learns theis leader, captain Lefevre (Angel del
Pozo) is actually in league with the bandits. Now Tampeko is on his own
to prevent the battle, & when he falls into the hands of his
adversaries & is tortured & blinded, all seems lost, would it
not be for his trusted friends, Sophie Daumier & Jose Calvo, who
helped deliver the message in his stead, just in time. The battle
can be prevented, Tampeko, who has regained eyesight by now, can
overthrow his guards & fight the bandits in a tunnle under the fort
in the showdown - he wins, of course.
Not the best, most original or imaginative Italo-Western, but a
lively, colourful & fast paced actioner, that actually has less in
common with the usually more sombre, vendetta-driven Spaghetti-Western
of its time than with the beloved B-Westerns of 30's & 40's America.
Former Hercules & Ursus Dan Vadis is actually so bad it's fun to
watch him, & Sophie Daumier, though otherwise rather wooden in her
role, bears the beautiful name Connie Breastfull here. |
