Marianne (Talita Maia) and Eric (Evan Williams) love one another, and
they seem to be perfect for one another, too, as both are artistically
inclined - she's a photographer, he's a writer. Thing is, while he loves
to play the starving artist, and even when he gets an assignment he's
riddled by doubt and tends to take to drinking quite a bit, she's the
responsible one and has accepted a job she doesn't even like as a
receptionist at some nondescript company. And things really come to a head
when his need for partying and drinking clash with her trying to be the
breadwinner in the relationship. But apparently, it always needs two
to break up ...
A very compelling movie that manages to pack quite a bit about
co-dependent relationships in conjunction with substance abuse into its
barely 16 minutes of running time, and manages to do so without preaching
or over-dramatizing but instead choosing a slice-of-life approach to
things, thus keeping things relatable. And strong and also pretty likeable
performances help bringing the story to life and turning it into a very
powerful short.
