A little girl (Earn) asks her mother (Ans) for some money - to visit a
perfectly grotesque museum with many a macabre exhibit like corpses of
malformed children in formaldehyde and plenty of skeletons in all sorts of
poses. But it's not death the girl sees but siblings she has never met but
will soon be with for the first time ... Despite all the
macabre to morbid imagery, this is actually a very poetic and uplifting
movie, seeing and re-interpreting what we consider horrific through the
eyes of an innocent child. And fortunately, the camerawork can capture
just that, going into the story with open eyes rather than drowning it in
preconceptions. Unusual ... and also very beautiful! By the
way, "Todessehnsucht" means death wish in German - a title that
also goes perfectly with the sort-of ambiguity of the movie.
