Amy (Laura Mtchell) and friends (Gemma Martini, Lee Balazs, Michael
Humus) want to buy an abandoned hospital to turn it into a research
center, but apart from Amy, everybody thinks there's something wrong with
the place and they are really freaked out - and so is Tanya (Corinna
Rennie), Amy's friend she brings in for a second opinion after thinking
her friends just got cold feet. Thing is, Amy soon starts to have
nightmares she wakes up from at exactly the same time each night,
nightmares that involve a young woman (Emily Bandel) all her friends tell
her they have been haunted by during or after their visit to the abandoned
hospital. Amy's dreams get clearer and clearer, and apparently the girl in
the dreams has been tormented to death, but now she wants closure and has
chosen Amy to help her achieve just that ... The Tormenting
is a slowburn ghost story that takes quite a bit to reveal its premise to
the audience - but that's really the film's main charm, it keeps one
guessing without just drowning everything in a few jump scares. And the
film really succeeds in building a creepy atmosphere that goes hand in
hand with the narrative build-up, and that coupled with quite some
unexpected plottwists and -turns ought to really keep the audience at the
edge of their seats!
