On leave from the army, Keng (Banlop Lomnoi) spends some carefree but also
boring time in the city, being practically unemployed. His only relief to fall
back on is farmboy turned icecutter Tong (Sakda Kaewbuadee), who like him seems
like an outcast in the city ... & soon, Keng develops homosexual feelings
for Tong.
Tong, though accepting his openly homosexual advances, isn't responding
accordingly, instead seems to tease him.
Soon Keng is called back to army services & taken to the jungle, &
his directive is to hunt down a beast that brutally killed some cows on
neighbouring farms. The beast though proves to be no mere animal but a mythic
tiger-man, a demon that comes back to the jungle every few years to kill. &
hunting the creature proves to be rather difficult as well as no matter how far
Keng goes, it always seems to be a few steps away ... until the hunter becomes
the hunted ...
But is the creature real, or is it just a manifestation of his imagination
that gives his quest a meaning beyond mere hunting ?
In parts, this is an interesting movie ... but also in parts, it's just
boring: The part where Keng is hunting the creature - which mostly manifests
itself as a tattooed naked man - through the jungle has it's merits, thanks to
great locations & atmosphere. OIn the other hand the love story between
Keng & Tong in an urban setting fails to build up enough narrative tension,
it rather stays tedious & banal. Furthermore the 2 stories do not seem to
be interlinjked wioth each other (apart from the fact that the main character
is the same), making the whole f9irst part of the movie dispensable in the
first place.
