Carmen (Rita Hayworth) is hired by the Feds to infiltrate Berker's
(Earl Dwire) gang, which is believed to rig rodeos or even kill rodeo
winners for the price money. At the same time Tex (Tex Ritter) drifts
into town with his sidekick Lucky (Horace Murphy), and he plans to
participate in the rodeo - and thus he soon goes head-to-head with Barker
and his henchmen, especially because he is a gifted rodeo rider. And since
he is a resourceful fighter as well, he is soon also hired by the Feds,
which is totally in his interest, since he is looking for the killers of
his brother, whom he suspects in Barker's outfit. It all culminates in
the rodeo, which Tex wins despite the baddies' foul play, Barker and his
men pulling off a bank job, and Tex defeating one of Barker's henchmen on
top of a speeding wagon full of dynamite - a scene in which Yakima Canutt
in his stuntman facility once again shows what he's able to do with
speeding wagons. And in the end, Tex also gets the girl, Carmen that is. Charles
Kind and Yakima Canutt play Barker's main henchmen. Entertaining
B-Western that is a little marred by an overuse of authentic rodeo footage
- which at least some viewers might see as the film's greatest asset I'm
sure. Apart from that, the film is fast paced, filled up with quite a few
good action sequences - especially of course the fight on (and under) the
speeding wagon - and even Ritter's occasional songs don't tear the film
apart too much. And Rita Cansino aka Hayworth might not turn in her best
performance, but she definitely shows star quality here.
