Beauty consultants Sun (Angie Cheung) and Aki (Gwong Man Chun) are sent
from Hong Kong to mainland China to open a new branch of the beauty salon
chain they are working for. Once there, Sun (Angie Cheung) is soon hired
by a rich man (Benny Lai) to make up his wife (Gigi Cheung), who was
horribly disfigured in an accident, for their anniversary - not an easy
task, but after a few sessions, Sun's treatment shows first results. It is
soon found out though that both husband and wife are actually ghosts, and
they soon seem to possess Sun. Meanwhile, Aki goes to a club every night,
only to eventually find out that almost all of the other guests in the
club are ghosts. An exorcist (Law Lan) is called in who soon clears the
club of ghosts, lifts the ghostly spell from Sun ... and then has her finish her
job on the ghostly wife. Once she has
successfully done this, the two ghosts leave this plane of existence. I
think this is supposed to be a horror comedy, but having watched it, I
have to admit I'm not 100% sure: The first problem is that the film takes
forever (half of its running time) to set up what's said in a single
phrase: Two girls set up a beauty salon. Once this is established, the
film is supposed to finally throw ghosts into the mix, and does so in the
most unimaginative ways, like just having characters turn away from
supposed ghosts in terror, having characters wear blue makeup or simply
having them dance oddly (really). Storywise, the film doesn't even try to
go for suspense, as if the mere presence of ghosts was enough to make this
one a horror flick. And as for the comedy aspects of the film ... the
whole thing is not funny either. Not worth your time or money!
