Budcasso (Joe Junior), who has left famed exorcist Mrs Bud (Law Lan) 15
years ago because he couldn't stand her constant involvement with ghosts
and the supernatural,
now invites her and her entourage (Tong Ka Fai, Cheung Ho Lung, Anita
Chan, Kau Man-Lung, Kwai Chung - in a word, the usual Troublesome
Night-gang) to his wedding in Shenzhen, where he also runs a
hotel. Mrs Bud initially doesn't get along with Budcasso's fiancée
Zidane (Si Ming) at all, basically because she is so much like her -
meaning she is also an exorcist. The two women try their best to not spoil
Budcasso's mood, can't help playing supernatural pranks on one another. One
of Mrs Bud's firends, Kou (Kau Man-Lung), tries to become friendly with
Christin (Emily Kwan), a receptionist in Budcasso's hotel, but when she
tells him off rather rudely, he wants revenge - and when he learns she has
embezzled quite a sum of the hotel's money, he threatens to expose her.
Christin knows she is cornered, so she confesses everything to Zidane in
hopes she will fix things with her husband-to-be for her. Only hours away
from her wedding, Zidane has other concerns though, so Christin decides to
pretend she has taken sleeping pills to commit suicide to get Zidane's
attention - but that doesn't turn out as planned, and her suicide becomes
the real thing ... Christin returns as vengeful ghost though, and soon
she threatens Zidane, Budcasso, Mrs Bud and her friends, and she's a
powerful ghost indeed, so powerful that Zidane and Mrs Bud decide to bury
their hatchet, team up and fight and defeat the ghost together - and
successfully, too. Happy Ending? Not quite, because once Budcasso
learns his wife-to-be is as much involved with ghosts and spirits as Mrs
Bud, he makes a hasty getaway. Probably the worst Troublesome
Night so far (which isn't saying much, though): This time all the
horror aspects of the story are refined to the last 10 minutes (of approx
90 minutes of running time), and this quick, spooky finale, which isn't
even properly set up until late in the movie, is pretty much lacking in
shocks, tension, suspense and everything else. So what, you may ask, is
the rest of the film about? About the (not so) funny adventures of the Troublesome
Night-gang in Shenzhen of course, some of them with supernatural
elements, most though about the guys of the gang chasing women.
Unfortunately, most of the jokes in this portion of the movie are either
old or not really funny or both, and the characters have just become more annoying
with each episode. To sum it up: A complete waste of time!
