For no apparent reason, oil fields are destroyed in the middle east,
oil tankers are sunk on high sea, and finally, a gas truck vanishes from
Tokyo Bay. When investigating, the Science Patrol soon finds out there's
an oil-eating giant monster behind all of this, and its next target is a
big oil refinery. Science Patrol does everything to prevent the monster
from attacking the refinery, but the monsteris quite difficult to handle
because it is full of oil, and attacking it with conventional weapons
would mean a big explosion - so nithing can prevent it from getting to the
oil refinery and wreaking ahvoc after all. Fortunately though, Hayata
(Susumu Kurobe) of Science Patrol is secretly giant robot Ultraman, and he
manages to defeat and kill the monster using his bare knuckles, then he
extinguishes the fire that threatens to destroy the refinery (and probably
half of Tokyo with it) - and once more, the day (and the world) is saved. The
monster in this episode, a bat-like being, is simply wonderful, especially
since it's not a man in a monstersuit but two men in a
monstersuit who are hiding in the bat's wings - which is why the
monster looks totally hokey when walking on its wings - and are attached
by the creature's tiny body. Apart from that, Oil S.O.S. is pretty
much business as usual - which isn't too bad a thing if you are childish
enough to watch whacky robot-vs-monster fights and the like.
