Somehow, a young boy makes it into the headquarters of Science Patrol
and warns them of giant monster Hidora. Just because no young boy is
supposed to make it into their headquarters, Science Patrol decides to
take his threat seriously - but Hidora is no real monster, just the giant
statue of a monster designed by a kid who has won a monster drawing
contest - and yet, Hidora, a giant flying creature, somehow comes to life
and wreaks havoc on Route 87. When the Science Patrol does some research
on the boy who designed the monster though, they find out he has died on
Route 87 half a year ago, and it was his spirit who warned the patrol but
who possibly also powers the monster. Still, a giant monster, powered by a
boy's spirit or not, has to be fought, so the Science Patrol throw
everything at it - with little success other than the crash of one of
their fighter jets ... but this jet was piloted by Hayata (Susumu Kurobe),
who is secretly also giant robot Ultraman, and after the crash, he turns
into the big guy to battle and defeat the monster. An episode
that's too full of kitsch to be one of the better episodes of the series -
but it's fun still, in a campy sort of way.
