In the middle of the desert, a hatch opens, a man emerges and walks
off, while the hatch gets blown over with sand soon enough. The man heads
for a cliff, jumps down into the sea, and swims to find an island for
himself - but he gets chased off every island he gets to by the respective
inhabitants, until he finds a completely pointless little stretch of land
in the middle of the sea, which he quickly claims his own, and chases away
all those who want to enter his island. Eventually, he digs a hole, falls
in - and becomes part of a stressful underground world of stairways where
people seem to be compelled to forever rush from hither to tither. Only
eventually, our hero manages to escape through a hatchway to the desert
... Now the concept of this film (everything going in endless
circles) might not be totally original, but it's the atmospheric imagery
that really makes this little piece of animation, combined with pictures
that often border the surreal and/or grotesque, giving the whole thing a
fittingly triplike vibe.
