When a railway owned by lovely Sally Jeffers (Pamela Blake) is haunted by a
ghost train, it's time for Tex (Tex Ritter) & his sidekicks Ananias (Horace
Murphy) & PeeWee (Snub Pollard) to investigate ... even if Sally is less
than leased by that as Tex poses as infamous outlaw Pecos Kid. Soon, Tex
& co find out that it is not a ghost trrain at all that haunts the
countryside, but merely the transport used by rustlers, led by Badger (Charles
King) & Slaugter (Karl Hackett), who use an abandoned & well
hidden track to make the train appear & disappear. So Tex & co decide
to follow the train to its secret hiding place & steal it from the rustlers
to present it to local sheriff Clayton (Ed Cassidy) as proof against the
rustlers. But the baddies have somehow foreseen this & have turned the
tables on Tex, claiming that he is actually the rustler trying to clear his
name ... & soon Tex, Ananias & PeeWee find themselves in prison. But
as these storuies go is Tex not only a government agent but also a personal
friend of the sheriff, who soon letas him go, & it culminates in a
showndown on the speeding ghosttrain,a t the end of which Tex hasbagged &
killed all the baddies & gets the girl - Sally - as a reward. Some
of the actiion in this movie, especially atop the speeding train, is quite
competently handled & makes a good finale, but overall this is just another
routine b-Western, with little new in story or action. The main point of
critique though is that Tex Ritter was actually a singing cowboy ...
which makes his posing as an outlaw pretty unconvincing.
