Ever since Marge (Agnès Godey) has left (escaped from?) her husband
Walter (Götz Otto), she's been living in hiding, fearing he'd eventually
find her and kill her. Why she thinks that? Because she has received
threatening letters, and even though they're not signed in his name, she
just knows they're his. So she has invited over her nephew Christian
(Keyvan Sheikhalishahi), for at least moral support. But Christian's
barely 18, and he's almost blind in the sun while he's also an avid star
gazer. Still, he agrees to help his aunt, and when Walter writes another
letter that suggests to meet her and end this, Christian agrees to go in
her place. And once they meet, Walter for sure pulls a gun on him. But the
truth is not what it seems and can actually be found somewhere completely
else ... Vesper is a quite compelling little thriller
where nothing is what it seems and the truth has many layers to it. And
all of this is a carried by a directorial effort subtle enough to give the
story room to breathe yet aware of genre mechanics, beautiful scenery
caught by nice camerawork, and a very solid cast who make their characters
palpable and relatable. A really nice watch!
