Spending Halloween in a library, for student friends
(Garrett Smith, Roni Jonah, Jason Crowe, Gerrimy Keiffer) try to make up
the perfect urban legend located in same library:
- A stressed out student (Alexandra Hendrick) studying too hard gets
offered an energy drink unknown to her by a weird stranger (Jim
O'Rear), and at first she uses her good judgment to turn it down, but
eventually ... hey, she's just a stressed out student terribly behing
in her studies, energy drinks were made for persons like her ...
- A nightshift librarian (Jordan Phillips) chances about a haunted
book (incidently written by the weirds stranger from story one) that
literally haunts the library.
- A student (Paige Ward) falls asleep in the library till after hours
learning - to suddenly find herself facing a monster - but things
aren't always what they seem.
- Librarian Paige (Kristine Renee Farley) can't shake the guilt she
feels about her boyfriend Derek's (Kevin Roach) suicide, so when a
book with Satanic spells, including one that lets her speak to the
dead, falls into her hand, she cannot resist ...
... and we're back with the four students of the framing story, and
things are about to get violent between them - when this is revealed
to be just a film set run by a psycho director (P.J. Starks). But his
story isn't half over when he insults and fires half of his staff on a
whim, as there's a killer on the loose on the premises ...
Volumes of Blood is a fun little horror anthology done by a
group of directors who have very different approaches to the horror genre
- resulting in films from the comic to the parodistic to the downright
terrifying, but what unites the film is their fun approach to the genre as
such, so prepare to be well-entertained. Plus, the film's framing story
works for the movie beautifully, not only because those involved (also
behind the camera) ultimately make fun of themselves, but because it fits
the stories with their eclectic approach into one whole rather seamlessly
... plus quite a few times it abandons one level of reality for the next -
to quite comical effect.
In all, a fun ride, really!
