Young Emmet (Ashton Burch) comes to Seattle from Ohio for a few days
... with no big plans on his mind, really, other than a few job interviews
that is. So the most time he's just bored to the point of depression, and even the fact that out here
he's legally allowed to do legally marihuana wears off soon as getting
high on one's own just isn't the same. Eventually he crosses paths
with Phoenix (Douglas Reese), and when Phoenix invites himself into Emmet's room, he doesn't show up any resistance - anything to kill time,
really. Now Pheonix is a man who can lay his heart bare, and he also
manages to get plenty out of introvert Emmet, and the two soon feel drawn
to one another, also sexually. Thing is though, Phoenix is a male
prostitute who spends a few days each month in Emmet's hotel just to make
a living - and Emmet has no idea how to deal with that ... Like
many of amateur auteur Douglas Reese's movies, Warwick is anything
but a fast-moving film, and quite a bit of it is completely dialogue-free
even - so don't expect spectacle, but that said, the slow pace and lack of
spoken word work entirely for the film, get you into the mindset of Emmet and do create narrative suspense once he and Phoenix meet. And Reese does
build up the story with great care, and he shows great talent in finding
interesting shots in a very limited location. Plus, the two actors do have
just the right chemistry. Now I won't lie to you, this is most certainly
a movie you need some patience for ... but it's most certainly worth it!
