Nurse Miki (Yuki Nohira) has just married a Doctor and couldn't be
happier - when on their wedding night, they are attacked by two thugs, and
while he is tied up she is brutally raped. Miki then wants to call the
police, but her husband not only tells her not to, he also throws her out
of his house because she has lost her innocence to another man (even if it
was through no fault of her own). Miki is devastated and wants to throw
herself off a cliff, but priest Sabei prevents her from doing so, instead
suggests her to become a nun - and since Miki doesn't know what else to do
she follows the priest's advice - hjowever the nunnery she is sent toseems
to be populated by sex-starved perverts like nuns who love lesbian sex and
being tortured and priest Sabei himself likes to shag his nuns every now
and again so they can better repent their sins (?).
Then Kazama (Yutaka Hayashi), an injured gangster, breaks into the
nunnery, and for some reason, Miki agrees to hide him in her room and
treat his wounds. When another nun, promiscuous Maria - she likes to visit
discos in full habit to pick up guys -, finds out about Kazama, he just
rapes her into submission - and it actually works, Maria becomes Kazama's
and Miki's loyal ally.
The Abbess of the nunnery however senses there's something wrong with
Miki, and she has her tied to a cross and whipped before she hands her
over to Sabei the priest, who soon enough rapes her, then tells her the
only way to really repent for her sins is to volunteer as the sheep at the
St Animal-rituals.
Miki agrees, only to find out during the rituals that the sheep is
actually auctioned off to the highest bidder of a congregation of rich
businessman who is then to rape her in front of everybody, and in a sheep
costume, too - poor Miki.
After the rape, nuns and businessmen alike engage in an orgy when
Kazama enters the scene and helps miki - still in sheep costume - escape.
And they can just evade the police, who were actually trailing Kazama to
the nunnery, but instead they stumble upon a big and unholy orgy ...
Miki and Kazama meanwhile make good their getaway, and the final scene
shows them making love while hiding out in a barn.
By pure definition it seems that the infamous nunsploitation genre
should be a purely Catholic European phenomenon, still this movie (and
others) prove the Japanese can make nunsploitation fare just as well - and
why not, nunsploitation films are traditionally not so much about
catholicism as they are about - well, sleaze, and this is something the
Japanese are just as good in as us Catholic Europeans.
... but of course none of this answers the question if Wet and Rope
is actually a good film, compared to genre standards - and actually it's
mediocre. It does feature some typically Japanese over-the-top ideas and
the usual sex and torture, but it lacks a really engaging plot on one
hand, on the other some really impressive setpieces that would set it
apart from similar fare.
Still, not the worst way to waste capproximately 70 minutes - if you
are into this kind of thing of course ...
