Kenza (Nezha Rahile) is a traffic cop on a busy junction in Casablanca.
To make some money on the side, she rents out her cellphone to her friends
and neighbours, who all have no telephone. One day she receives a call
from Kamel (Faouzi Bensaidi) intended for one of her friends, Yet Kamel
immediately falls in love with her voice and sets out to find her - and
eventually he spends hours at the café at her junction, just to watch
her.
When Kamel is not watching Kenza, he's a killer for hire who does his
job often in the most daring manner, like shooting someone in broad
daylight and then escaping dressed as a woman - and dressed as a woman, he
and Kenza share an elevator, without her recognizing him.
Ultimately, Kenza go out on their first date - when Kamel's work
catches up with him as a handful of killers point their guns at the lovers
... and after a big shootout, Kamel and Kenza die next to each other.
This however is only the main narrative the film tells, other stories
concern a maid (Fatima Attif) at a rich man's house who earns a little
extra money as a prostitute and a young man (El
Mehdi Elaaroubi) who desperately wants to leave for Europe
- but once he's on the way, his little boat is run over by a luxury
cruiser ...
You might not have guessed it, but WWW What a Wonderful World is
actually a comedy, and despite its serious subjects, it's a very
light-footed, even playful film that puts more emphasis on visual
inventiveness than its downbeat stories and this way turns the whole thing
around and makes it into almost 100 minutes of pure entertainment.
Strongly recommended.
