The Ravens - singer and bassist Jane (Clara Kovacic), guitarist Mark
(Juan Pablo Bishel) and drummer Billy Bob (Matías Desiderio) - have just
played the last gig of their modestly successful Argentinian tour, and
partying afterwards, Billy Bob picks up sexy Carla (Magui Bravi), who then
invites them all, plus their entourage - tour manager Javi (Agustin
Olcese), Mark's girlfriend Sophie (Maria Eugenia Rigon) - to a barbecue in
her hometown ... but then she's quickly thrown out of the tour bus when
she gets a bit too physical with Billy Bob right in front of everyone
else. She swears revenge though. Billy Bob, not too happy about the turn
of events, goes after her ... and disappears. So the others go after him
and make it to Carla's hometown - to find the place has been completely
destroyed by a flood decades ago and seems to be uninhabitable. But
apparently it actually is inhabited by Carla and her family - her
grandfather Tadeo (Mario Alarcón) and his three sons (Germán Baudino,
Chucho Fernández, David Michigan), who soon pick up our heroes browsing
town one by one and throw them into their dungeon, because Carla wasn't
lying when she invited them all to a barbecue. She just failed to mention
that they were to be the main course ... Now make no mistake,
this is a pretty violent film, and it doesn't shy away from showing its
brutal bits either. But it's also a pretty over-the-top movie that has a
certain light-hearted, almost comedic touch to it that it works more like
a party movie than as an actual shocker - and as such it works very well,
really, as it's well paced, features some easily identifyable fun
characters, some great visuals, and even if there's some over-acting among
the cast, it fits the story well. And while the film's definitely not for
everyone, for those so inclined it makes a good 85 minutes of enjoyable
genre entertainment.
