Once a big mob boss in New York, Tony Pantera (Nino Cimino) has since
become part of the witness protection program as he has thrown a few
member of his gang under the bus who tried to throw him under the bus.
Martin (Chris Spinelli), the FBI agent responsible for him, urges him to
keep a low profile, but even on his first day in LA, where he was
relocated to, Tony is arrested for attacking a police officer (Shane Ryan)
- and he soon starts developing feelings for his arresting officer Natalie
(Jaclyn Marfuggi). Once Martin has gotten him out of jail, Tony is quick
to plan his next heist, to rob a children's hospital of its donations on
Christmas Eve with the help of Santa Claus actor David (Sam Dobbins). For
this, Tony even flies in some friends from New York (James Menditto, Lou
Tapia, Giorgio Bellossi) to help pull it off. Problem is, this also
attracts the attention of the competition (Gio Drasconi, Louis DeStefano),
who want both their hands on the money and Tony dead, and then there are
the watchful eyes of the police, especially Martin and Natalie, who warms
up to Tony more and more, which Tony has to try and avoid ... Now
it might already shine through in my synopsis, but this is a movie not to
be taken very seriously - actually it's a company painting things in
rather broad strokes while embracing all wiseguy clichés there are. And
it works, too, as the thing flows along quite nicely, is subtly enough
directed, doesn't overplay its jokes, and has a very relatable lead in
Nino Cimino, who might ham it up a bit, but that totally fits his
character. And despite the word "Christmas" in the title, that
angle of the story is rather downplayed, giving the audience an engaging
story rather than a tired Christmas routine.
