It all started out as a cute little documentary in which fashion designer JoAnne (Joanne Tombo) takes us through the small town she grew up in, visiting all the usual places and events you'd expect her to, including a wake for a soldier killed in the line of duty - where she and her friends are clearly out of place because nobody knew the deceased, but his superior, the Colonel (Patrick Kilpatrick), has nice words for them anyhow ... and then out of nowhere, zombies attack, and everybody runs in a panic, with nobody really knowing what to do, where to go - until JoAnne and friends run into the Zombinator (Joseph Aviel), a Terminator look-alike who shoots zombies by the dozen with his shotgun and who takes our heroes to safety while filling them in the zombies are a gouvernment experiment spun out of control, but he's trying to take care of the situation - which is a good thing, only the Colonel and his men actually don't want the zombies to be killed, want JoAnne's little village fall prey to the zombies to promote their new bio weapon. And with them clashing with the Zombinator, our heroes find themselves on the run again - but where to run when both gouvernment and zombies are on their heels ...

Now I have to admit up-front I'm not particularly keen on the found footage/mockumentary approach Zombinator is taking, as it adds nothing to the drama unfolding, and as a result the often shaky camerawork detracts from the action a bit. Apart from that though, this is a fun film with a cool and original premise, a fun build-up, and a good mix of comedy (especially the paranormal investigators being zombie deniers comes to mind), drama and horror, with many interesting characters that are actually afforded character arcs (not always a given in zombie movies). And the Zombinator himself is of course a nice piece of hommage for those having grown up on Terminator-movies. So maybe not perfect (see above), but a very enjoayble ride for sure.
