All over Tokyo, real estate just disappears - submerges to be more
precise -, which is distressing for the Zone family not only because they
are notorious heroes for humankind's cause, but also because they're at
the center of a triangle of submerging land. So the littlest one of the
family, Akira (Takashi Soto), decides to go investigate, but of course,
this only gets him into trouble, so his brother Hikaru (Kazuya Aoyama) and
sister Hotaru (Kazumi Kitahara) go after him. And it's not long before
they uncover a plot by the evil aliens Garoga to completely submerge Tokyo
using their drill monster Zandora. Hikaru turns into superhero Zone
Fighter and grows to giant size to go into hand to hand battle with
Zandora, but the driller has some tricks up its sleeve and soon buries
Zone Fighter under tons of rubble - and with Zone Fighter's energy running
out, he finds himself in a bit of a predicament. But fortunately,
Godzilla's in the neighbourhood, and he's quick to come to the rescue ... In
all, a pretty average episode of Zone Fighter, with the plot never
even trying to elevate things beyond pure formula, and Godzilla pretty
much thrown into the plot as a deus-ex-machina out of the completely blue.
But hey, at least the drill monster looks rather inspired, and heck, that scene where Godzilla whips Zandora with its
own severed tale is dead funny! This of course might not be nearly enough
to actually recommend this episode, but it is better than nothing.
