With the other occupants of his care home, Frankie Abbott (David Barry)
goes on a field trip to the park on Good Friday ... only to be terribly
disappointed there won't be any Easter eggs till Sunday. So Frankie does
what the disappointed kid he essentially is despite his age would do, he
tries to swindle a little girl (Ria Patel) out of the big Easter egg she
has just gotten, and when that doesn't work out, he just nicks it. But
that might not have been the best idea, since now a giant Easter Rabbit
with a knife (Timothy Curtis) comes after him, one which only he can see -
but does that make the bunny any less dangerous? A sequel to Frankula,
which also resurrects David Barry's character from the series Please Sir!
(1968 - '71) and The
Fenn Street Gang (1971 - '73), this is more good natured yet
raunchy genre fun, this time marrying charmingly old-fashioned British
humour and slapstick to slasher genre tropes, which never has the audience
in any doubt that everything is tongue-in-cheek, and yet, this little
movie manages to create some pleasently disturbing images, first and
foremost of course an in its blandness utterly scary Easter Rabbit. And
the fact that everyone seems to be in on the joke makes this work, as does
David Barry's pleasantly boyish on-screen persona. It's a pretty good
laugh for sure!
