Your upcoming movie Divorcing the Mob - in a few words,
what's it going to be about?
In contemporary times, a Mafia boss's wife, after witnessing her husband's
brutal crime, issues an ultimatum: Leave the mob, or she leaves him. Now how did the project
come into being in the first place? Debra Lamb [Debre Lamb interview -

found a project worthy of our collaboration. While my focus has shifted to
directing, this unique opportunity to work alongside a dear friend proved
irresistible. We mutually agreed to pursue it. With Divorcing
the Mob being a gangster movie, is that a genre at all dear to you,
and some of your genre favourites? And what will make your film stick out
of the crowd? I prefer stories that offer
inspiration and hope; however, opportunities to work in that genre have
been limited. The mobster film represented a departure from my usual
preference, offering a chance to explore a different creative avenue. Divorcing the
Mob's unique approach lies in its ability to blend
dark subject matter with comedic elements. The film explores relatable,
real-life dilemmas and the often humorous ways characters navigate
them. What can you tell us about your co-writers
Debra Lamb and Harry Shenawolf, and what was your collaboration
like? Debra and Harry are close friends and valued collaborators.
Harry, a history professor, has contributed significantly to several of my
scripts, lending historical accuracy and believability to fictional
narratives. While I wrote the initial draft, Harry and Debra provided
invaluable feedback and story refinement. Additional contributions came
from John Wood (cinematographer) and Tom Stoops (actor), who enhanced the
comedic timing and dialogue.
Do talk about Divorcing the Mob's
approach to comedy! My comedic approach in this production
prioritizes organic humor, stemming from characters navigating chaotic
circumstances. Forced humor is avoided; instead, the comedy arises
naturally from the scene and overall thematic context. We have assembled a
talented cast to realize this vision. A few words about Divorcing
the Mob's intended look and feel? We are striving for a cinematic look
employing natural, warm color palettes and fluid camera movement, avoiding
static shots. Our cinematographer, John Wood, is meticulously developing
innovative camera angles and compositions to enhance the project's visual
appeal. What can you tell us about Divorcing
the Mob's director Rich Varville, and what makes him perfect for the
job? Rich is the owner of RSVP Films LLC, a full-service production company based in
San Diego, California. As a director, he is known for his expertise in
project management, cinematography, editing, and sound design. Rich
approaches every project with the same passion he felt as a child first
discovering the power of cinema. He and I have already collaborated on my
film Vampire Penance. I chose Rich because he’s the best in the biz!
Honored that he would join us in this production!

You also play one of the
leads in Divorcing the Mob - so what can you tell us about
your character, what will you draw upon to bring him to life, and have
you written him with yourself in mind from the get-go? I will be portraying
Vincent "Blue Eyes" Berlusconi, a hardened Mafia boss with a
long criminal history and deep ties to the Berlusconi crime family. My
performance will draw inspiration from legendary actors of the genre,
aiming to offer a fresh perspective while still delivering the
characteristics audiences expect from such a role. Do
talk about the rest of Divorcing the Mob's key cast, and why
exactly these people? Debra Lamb, a
highly talented actress, will portray Angelina, bringing her own unique
interpretation to the role. We are also fortunate to have Gio Drasconi, a
rising star often compared to Joe Pesci, in the cast. Gio and I have a
longstanding professional relationship, and I am confident he will deliver
a powerful performance. The entire ensemble cast—including Cindy
Copeland, Ciaron Davies [Ciaron
Davies interview - click here], Dennis Daniels, Tom Stoops, Kathryn Pope, Carie
Lynn and my good friend James Schultz—are exceptional. Each actor
possesses unique skills perfectly suited to their respective characters,
promising a truly compelling cinematic experience. You're currently in the process
of raising funds for Divorcing the Mob - so do talk about
your campaign for a bit! Our initial
projections for this project involved a significantly lower budget.
However, the screenplay's rapid development—completed in just three
days—and subsequent revisions with my associates limited our time to
fully prepare an IndieGoGo campaign. Therefore, the funds we are seeking
will offset some of the production costs currently being covered
out-of-pocket by the cast and crew. We are confident that the project's
potential will resonate with supporters and encourage contributions to
help us bring this vision to life. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/divorcing-the-mob#/ Once the budget's in
place, what's the schedule? And any idea when and where Divorcing
the Mob might be released yet?
