Attila (Attila Korosi) is an ER doctor at a local hospital, and so when
one night young Daniel (Daniel Hovey) is brought in after being run over
by a car, his main objective is to save his life, which he succeeds in.
Attila doesn't know that Daniel is actually the son of crime kingpin
Carlos (Michael Flores), and his "accident" was actually a
revenge crime that ultimately started a gang war. He also couldn't know
that at the time Daniel was brought in, his sister Anita (Anita Korosi)
called him, and him being unable to pick up the phone destroyed her
chances to leave their native Mexico to come live in the US. So basically,
Daniel not being run over would have made everything better, right? Only
it wouldn't have, as while Anita could have come over, she soon would have
gotten into legal trouble that would eventually find Attila half a million
Dollar short to get her out of jail. To get to that kind of money, and
quick, too, Attila and his best friend Ishaan accept a courier job by
crime kingpin Tony (Robert LaSardo) to raid the place of none other than
Carlos that would leave Daniel's brother Angel (Angel Hovey) killed and
start an even more massive gangwar - but then again, there's always
another turn one could have taken ...
Quite an unusual piece of crime cinema, as on one hand it
plays like your usual thriller, with all the excitement and violence in
all the right places, action and suspense aplenty, and a well set-up
fish-out-of-water premise. But then again, the film's framed with an
animated fable that shines a very special light on the proceedings, and
repeatedly rewinds what has just happened on screen to really change the
direction of the story - and weirdly enough this works really well, thanks
to a clever screenplay as well as a genre savvy directorial effort, making
this a highly watchable piece of crime cinema.
