Quite a few years in the future, when humankind and vampirekind have fought a war that neither side could even hope to win, and now both species are down to only a small fraction of their former self, with both vampires and humans reduced to roaming the countryside in search for food and shelter. There's but one man who sets out to change the rather pitiful status quo, John Shepard (Costas Mandylor), who is on a mission to kill the Vampire Master (Robert LaSardo), as with his death his whole clan would be wiped from the face of the earth. Problem is, the Vampire Master knows John is after him, so he and his Vampire Queen (Tara Reid) are preparing for the final battle. In the meantime, John gathers some allies around him, like clumsy yet resourceful thief Charlie (Johnny Huang), biker Rico (Rich R. Rendon), and gun-wielding sisters Brooke (Sarah French) and Elena (Elissa Dowling), who have only recently lost their dad (William 'Bill' Connor) to vampires. However, on his quest John encounters yet another problem, he doesn't know where to exactly find the Vampire Master, only the very broad area. So he asks Torque (Bishop Stevens), head of the local cut-throat militia for help, and Torque's militia has tracked down the Vampire Master in no time. Thing is, Torque's convinced the vampires will win the brewing war, so he throws in with them and pretty much sells out John in the process - something that's bound to have dire consequences for all involved ...

Now ok, Bloodthirst might not exactly be Oscar material - but that said, it's also lots of fun, a wildly entertaining genre blend of endtime and vampire flick with some western motives thrown in just for good measure, all done with a certain throwback grindhouse flair devoid of post-modernist hindsight or esaggerated self-irony. Instead, the film spins its yarn at a steady pace, peoples it with a colourful cast of characters, features many an action setpiece to keep one entertained, and on top of all of that, the thing's rather beautifully filmed. In all, it might not be the film with the most depth, but you'll probably find yourself enjoying it more than you've expected to.
