Ancient Rome: When Emperor Caligula (Francesco Malcom) is not busy
insulting his senators, he fucks every woman in his court, be it his
maids, slaves or captives. Sometimes though he takes his friends to a
neighbourhood brothel - to fuck of course. At times, Joe
D'Amato proved himself to be an extremely talented porn director, who had
no problems combining an entertaining plot and hardcore fucking to an
enjoyable whole. This film however, a reminder of one of his earlier, more
notorious successes, Caligula:
The Untold Story, is rather a disappointment. While the earlier
film might not have been exactly brilliant but still an at least at times
fascinating exercise in perversion and decadence, this is basically sex by
the numbers, with the characters dressing in togas for no particular
reason. And as a director, D'Amato does remarkably little to make this
film special in any way, rather the contrary. To put it bluntly, a
disappointment.
