Stephanie (Mary Zaroura) is a therapist specializing in couple
counseling - but she's totally fed up with her job, as it seems none of
her patients seem to use common sense to solve their problems or have
totally contradicting expectations and still expect her to solve their
problems. So eventually she snaps and insults her patients and chases them
out of her office. But fortunately, there's help - and it's coming from
God (Kenny Ledee) ... no really, God is a rather unassuming Puerto Rican
with a garish fashion sense who happens to specialize in couple therapy.
And it seems he has good if eccentric advice for everybody (advice that
not always is in line with the bible), and he also sees to it that his
patients go through with it, as since God is everywhere, he does show up
in their apartments from time to time. That said, is God really God, and
if not, how good is his advice then? Help from Above is
above everything lots of fun, and that's because it doesn't place its bet
just on its central concept - God isn't who you think he is, but he's an
eccentric therapist -, but is populated by colourful and well fleshed-out
characters with their own character arcs, many of which are rather funny
in their own right. Plus, the punchline's quite amusing in itself. Now add
to that a solid cast - with especially Kenny Ledee as eccentric God being
on the point - and a subtle directorial effort, and you've got yourself a
fun film for sure.
