Mariette (Hartley), an aging actress with some great movies under her belt but seeing business dry up of late, has decided to go back into the dating game - but the dating app she uses only matches her with men who disappointingly remind her of her old age, with the occasional psycho (Peter MacNicol) thrown in. Then, of all places, at a bird store, she meets Jerry (Sroka), a Jewish comedian who like her has seen business drying up of late, who eventually asks her out for a date - and even though the two seem to have nothing in common at first, they gradually grow fond of one another, each finding the other's "otherness" refreshing. And eventually they do become a couple. But their relationship still young, Mariette has a medical emergency - and during her recovering from her treatment, she tries to re-align her life, growing less and less sure there's even room for Jerry in it while doing so ...

So what's actually "true" about this movie is of course that Mariette Hartley and Jerry Sroka are a real life couple, married since 2005, and several other aspects of their lives are actually hinted at. How much more "truth" is actually hidden in Our (Almost Completely True) Love Story I really wouldn't know, and it's really immaterial to guess as the title in itself suggests artistic license. That all said, probably due to their real life relationship, Mariette Hartley and Jerry Sroka have wonderful chemistry with one another, which alone already makes this film a half-winner, and the clever and witty script the two have written together, bridging the bridge between high drama and subtle comedy, really takes the film over the finish line rather beautifully, making this, despite the serious subjects the film touches, a pure joy to watch.
