George (Peter Hayes) works at an antiques shop and is madly in love
with his boss Lili (Gabrielle Chan), but to shy to ask her out. And to
hide this, he makes up all sorts of stories about him being the ladies'
man, the polar opposite of who he actually is, and oblivious to the fact
that this might actually turn Lili away from him. George's co-worker
Sachin (Anmol Mishra) meets a girl, Elisa (Susanne Richter) one night
who's at a low point in her life after being kicked out of her apartment
out of the blue, and he lends her a shoulder to cry on. They two almost
immediately really like one another, and before long go steady. But she's
a dancer, and Sachin hasn't got the first idea about dancing, so much so
that at a beginners' dancing course he still manages to make a fool of
himself. Lili's dance partner Zac (Brendon Wong) meanwhile is madly in
love with Alex (Connor Dowling), so much so that he has proposed to him.
Thing is, Zac has yet to come out to his parents as gay ...
A rather lovely romantic comedy or drama (really depends on
which narrative thread you're talking about) that works quite so well
because it doesn't overplay it in any way; There are no heightened
emotions, no jokes for the jokes' sake, no tearjerking moments. Instead,
the film takes a slice-of-life approach, opting for subtlety in both
writing and direction, and basically just letting things flow, for better
or worse really. And as a result, and coupled with down-to-earth
performances by all involved, this has turned out to be a very relatable
film, and extremely likeable for that, too.
