Everest's (Rami Hilmi) father has been a championship who has pretty
much been tricked out of his title - so to do right by his father, Everest
wants to win the title. And to this end, he wants his father's coach
Constantine (David Cradduck) to train him. Constantine however is not all
that interested, as while Everest's talent might be questionable at best,
his strength and fitness leave a lot to be desired. But what he lacks in
everything else, Everest makes up in insistance, so eventually Constantine
agrees to train him - but his training methods are more than a little
unorthodox. But slowly, he does get Everest into shape - but will it be
enough to beat the current champ (V. Williams)? If The Tyro
is one thing, it's pretty great fun! Sure, the film features more genre
clichés than one can shake a stick at, from a fighter wanting to live up
to his father's legacy to the unconventional coach, but the film always
has the tongue firmly in cheek, and writer/director/star Rami Hilmi, a
skilled fighter and stunt choreographer in real life, seems to have lots
of fun going for self-deprecating humour, while his direction's also
genre-savvy enough for the film to work as a loving parody, with the final
punchline really packing a punch - but not in the way you'd expect!
