After he tried to get fresh with her, teenaged witch Jenny (Isabella
Jaimie) decides to give her mobster boyfriend Dominic (Zsolt Kormendy) a
good fright by making him the centerpiece of a blood ritual also involving
a yorkshire terrier. But something goes wrong as there's a traitor among
the witches attending the ritual, and ultimately all the participating
witches but Jenny get stabbed, including her mother Sandra (Rebecca De
Ornelas). In shock Jenny brutally stabs Dominic - and then somehow turns
into a blend of werewolf and yorkie (Risa Mei). Not knowing where to go,
Jenny meets up with the town's vampire, young Chris (Jacob Rainer),
and since the local mobster boss Big Nick (Juan Salvati) is responsible
for Jenny's mum as well as Chris's parents, they swear revenge. Now they
want to blow up Nick's pasta place, but they're only teens and Big Nick
just happens to also be a mighty warlock, they fail and are about to be
destroyed - when Big Nick finds out Jenny's his daughter and takes her
into his confidence, of how he wants to win the war witches versus
mobsters by a certain crystal turning and any other supernatural creatures
back into normal humans. But he promises to keep her out of harm's way
because of family bonds. Jenny somehow believes him, only to later find
out his true, all-malevolent intentions. She wants to go save her kind,
but by that time it might already be too late ... Now one thing
up front, The Yorkie Werewolf doesn't expect one to take it
seriously, a look at the very diminuitive titular character alone should
give one that indication. Also, the film's full of young adult horror
tropes but has fun subverting them - like the central love story between
werewolf and vampire that (intentionally) leads exactly nowhere. And the
film's pretty bloody, too, but never gruesome enough to not also induce a
few laughs. And Isabella Jaimie carries the film with panache, supported
by a solid ensemble. And the result is just one really entertaining horror
comedy.
