Johnny (Dakota Bailey), Chester (Fred Epstein) and Billy (Darien
Fawkes) have one thing in common: They're scumbags! Johnny is a hitman
addicted on heroin, Chester's a drugdealer who isn't at all opposed to
rape and murder, and Billy's a psychotic ex-con who's mind's mostly on how
to have his revenge on his ex (Katy Katzar) and her new boyfriend (Bill
Schafer). At least on paper, the three of them are allies in a world where
everybody seems to be a complete asshole, but neither of the three is
honest, loyal or stable even, so it seems just a matter of time before the
three clash ... American Scumbags is most certainly a
film that doesn't hold back, so do expect a film full of violence and
depravity that is likely to shock you in one way or another, wrapped into
three loosely connected stories that are not for the feeble-minded. And if
you want to be shocked, you've most certainly hit the jackpot here, but
what this film unfortunately lacks is characters to identify with: In the
truest sense of the title, all the leads and supporting roles here are
scumbags, which also means you can't feel with them or have much
compassion for them - and this is a bit of a shame as the film's well-made
and features some (in a perverted way) fun ideas - it's just a film you
watch to be freaked by out rather than get into it, narratively.
