After a marital dispute in the swamp, a woman (Yvette Vickers) and her
lover (Michael Emmet) go missing, and when her husband (Bruno VeSota)
claims they were taken by some kind of monster, everyone thinks he's just
trying to cover up a murder - everyone but Doc Greyson (Tyler McVey) that
is, who soon persuades local game warden Steve (Ken Clark), the boyfriend
of his daughter (Jan Shepard) to go and look for a monster. At first,
Steve's quest leads to nothing though, until the doc uses some dynamite to
shake things up a bit, whereupon the corpses of those missing come to
surface and show traces of - well, being killed by giant leeches.
Ultimately, Steve goes on a diving expedition to kill one such giant
leech, before the rest are killed by some more dynamite ... Typical
1950's style science fiction of the monstermovie variety, made on the
cheap (which is most obvious in the bad monster suits), but somehow the
film's budgetary shortcomings and its formulaic plot are at least part of
the reason why the movie is very enjoyable, at least to later day
audiences. Just don't take it too seriously and you will see how much fun
the film provides.
